ZENNER presents new LoRaWAN gateway for efficient and powerful Internet of Things networking
Published:05. Nov 2024Saarbrucken, November 2024. Zenner International GmbH & Co. KG is launching its new Zenner IoT Gateway outdoor 16, an innovative solution that ushers in the next level of networking for LoRaWAN applications. The gateway, which can be used throughout Europe, combines state-of-the-art technology with maximum efficiency and reliability, making it ideal for use in urban and industrial applications.
“LoRaWAN (Long Range Wide Area Network) has established itself in recent years as the leading standard for wireless data transmission in the energy industry and smart cities. The Zenner IoT Gateway outdoor 16 gives network operators a powerful tool to implement the connectivity needed for their digital applications,” explains René Claussen, Head of IoT & Digital Solutions at Zenner.
The gateway extends Zenner’s existing IoT portfolio and was specially developed for IoT applications with LoRaWAN. It is compatible with all common LoRaWAN network servers and enables reliable, energy-saving data transmission over long distances. The gateway has 16 channels. Thanks to state-of-the-art LoRaWAN technology, the gateway can support a wide range of applications – from smart cities to Industry 4.0. The gateway scores particularly well due to its easy integration, robust design and full compatibility with existing networks.
Innovative technology for maximum efficiency
The LoRaWAN-enabled Zenner IoT Gateway outdoor 16 is specially designed to meet the challenges of modern IoT networks. It offers a long range of up to 15 kilometres in rural areas and up to 5 kilometres in urban environments, enabling seamless and reliable communication between IoT devices even over long distances.
Thanks to state-of-the-art antenna technology and improved interference suppression, the new gateway can process a large number of devices simultaneously while remaining stable and powerful, even in demanding network environments. The energy-efficient architecture enables LoRaWAN users to reduce their operating costs while ensuring their equipment has a long lifespan. The gateway has a separate, external LTE antenna. This also improves the gateway’s WAN connection compared to equipment with an internal antenna.
Reliability and security
In an increasingly interconnected world, data security is also a key issue. For this reason, Zenner placed the highest emphasis on security standards when developing the IoT Gateway outdoor 16. The LoRaWAN standard uses end-to-end encrypted data transmission (AES 128) in accordance with German BSI TR-2102. No reading values are stored on the gateway itself.
Possible uses
The IoT Gateway outdoor 16 offers almost unlimited application possibilities. In urban areas, the gateway can contribute to the implementation of smart metering, smart building or smart city solutions. These include, for example, remote readouts of consumption meters, intelligent street lighting, traffic monitoring, environmental monitoring or water level measurement for flood protection. In industry, it allows machines and sensors to be networked in real time, which increases the efficiency and reliability of production processes.
The IoT gateway also opens up new possibilities in agriculture. Thanks to its ability to transmit data over long distances, farmers can monitor their fields with intelligent sensors and thus optimise irrigation, fertilisation and harvesting – with minimal energy consumption.
Visionary and sustainable
Zenner has been committed to the development of innovative and sustainable technologies for years. “The new gateway is our technical contribution to a sustainable and connected future,” explains Claussen. “We want to support companies and municipalities in making their IoT infrastructure more efficient, secure and sustainable. The gateway is not only a technological milestone, but also a step towards a more environmentally friendly and resource-efficient future.” The Zenner IoT Gateway outdoor 16 is now available at the Zenner online shop. Interested companies and municipalities can find out about the exact specifications, price options and tailor-made solution packages in the shop.
Product presentation webinar
To give interested parties a detailed insight into the possible applications, Zenner is offering a webinar on November 14, 2024 from 2:00 p.m. to present the new gateway. The webinar will present the technical features, integration options and support for scalable real-time solutions to improve urban infrastructure and supply management.
