Zenner demonstrates at E-world 2026 how utilities and municipalities can become resilient – Smart Cities, Strong Solutions
Published:22. Jan 2026Cities, municipalities and utilities are facing the challenge of building future-proof and resilient infrastructures. At E-world 2026 in Essen (February 10–12, 2026), Zenner International GmbH & Co. KG will present innovative solutions for utilities and smart cities. This year, the focus is on the Smart Water rollout.
Saarbrücken, January 2026. Extreme weather events, increasing resource scarcity and growing urbanization pose complex challenges for cities and the water sector alike. As a key component of modern infrastructures, digitalization is gaining importance: smart technologies strengthen resilience, create transparency in supply networks and support efficient, data-driven operational processes.
At E-world 2026, Zenner will present a portfolio of solutions that enables utilities and municipalities to implement a wide range of innovative smart city solutions from a single source.
Solutions for the Smart Water rollout
Today, Zenner offers a comprehensive portfolio of smart metering technology for water, heat and gas and continuously develops new innovations. The goal for 2026 is to roll out Smart Water solutions nationwide. The IUWS B.One ultrasonic domestic water meter can support customers in this process. The meter features a “parallel radio” function, transmitting measurement data simultaneously via LoRaWAN and Wireless M-Bus, thus providing all functions required for digital meter reading.
For water utilities, Zenner has also developed a solution package for the cost-effective remote reading of water meters: B.One Metering as a Service (MaaS) by Zenner. The added value: without additional investments in infrastructure, further smart solutions can be implemented with MaaS. “By integrating additional sensors and devices, MaaS can be used to build sustainable and resilient water systems and even integrate flood protection solutions,” explains René Claussen, Head of the Business Unit Measurement Systems, IoT and Digital Solutions at Zenner International GmbH & Co. KG.
As a Smart Water solution provider, the company offers solutions that enable water utilities to digitalize numerous processes – from digital meter reading and water quality monitoring to flood protection – all from a single source. A practical example is leak detection: Zenner cooperates with Fast GmbH for this use case. The aim of the partnership is to provide municipal water suppliers and utilities with an adaptive, digital solution for detecting and locating leaks in the water network.
The world’s largest LoRaWAN network
With the successful integration of 10 million sensors, the Minol-Zenner Group reached a technological milestone in September 2025. Today, the group operates the world’s largest LoRaWAN network, with network availability in 15 countries. “LoRaWAN has revolutionized the way energy suppliers, the housing industry and smart cities operate. The technology offers reliable, efficient connectivity and is therefore the basis for many smart use cases,” explains Zenner CEO Zeljko Petrina.
Zenner is one of the leading providers of digital solutions based on LoRaWAN. The company has successfully implemented more than 450 projects with utilities, energy providers, municipalities and industry. Building on this experience, Zenner now offers a broad portfolio of solutions and use cases for smart, resilient cities.
These include air quality measurement and environmental monitoring, smart metering, energy efficiency in buildings, fill level monitoring of containers and silos, and the provision of urban data platforms. All relevant city data is collected via LoRaWAN, consolidated in central platforms such as Zenner’s B.One Element Suite and visualized on dashboards. This enables cities and citizens to use resources more efficiently, plan better and respond more quickly to challenges.
Smart resilience: the new B.One solution ecosystem
A central part of the trade fair presence is the new B.One solution ecosystem of the Minol-Zenner Group. It combines adaptability, connectivity and resilience: all smart meters and sensors of the group that transmit data digitally, as well as all solutions implemented with these devices, will in future be recognizable by the B.One logo. The label guarantees that devices are compatible with each other.
Under the motto “Smart Cities, Strong Solutions”, Zenner will present solutions for smart cities and the Smart Water rollout at E-world 2026 in Essen, Hall 2, Booth C114.
