Follow-up: ZENNER at the Smart City Expo World Congress 2025
Published:12. Nov 2025From November 4 to 6, 2025, Zenner International GmbH & Co. KG presented innovative solutions for smart water networks and urban applications at the Smart City Expo World Congress 2025 (SCEWC) in Barcelona.
At the LoRa Alliance booth, Zenner demonstrated how cities can digitize their infrastructure and operate it efficiently. LoRaWAN forms the backbone of numerous smart city applications: The wireless standard reliably connects devices, sensors, and platforms, creating an interoperable infrastructure.
“Many projects start with a promising use case, but long-term success depends on building a strong, interoperable ecosystem. This is exactly where LoRaWAN and the LoRa Alliance show their strength,”
explains Jan-Philipp Exner, Head of Strategic Project Development Smart City Strategy & Solution Integration.
Smart solutions for urban applications
Zenner’s range of solutions combines smart metering technology for water, heat, and gas, intelligent sensor technology, communication and infrastructure for the secure transmission of meter and sensor data, and software solutions for processing and visualization. The Internet of Things (IoT) and, above all, wireless technologies such as LoRaWAN have become drivers of digitalization for municipal utilities, local authorities, and suppliers. This portfolio enables a wide range of smart solutions for smart cities and water management, including submetering, flood protection, environmental monitoring, traffic flow and fill level monitoring, and leak detection.
Collaboration as the key to success
In addition to implementing these solutions, cooperation with partners, customers, and other stakeholders is crucial for successful smart city projects. The trade fair clearly demonstrated the importance of exchange and networking:
“Innovation is not just a question of technology – it thrives on people, collaboration, and a shared vision,”
emphasizes Exner.
According to Exner, smart cities only reach their full potential when technological solutions and human cooperation go hand in hand.
Boris Stöckermann, Head of Business Development, Strategy, Marketing & eCommerce at Minol-Zenner, sums up the trade fair appearance:
“The Smart City Expo World Congress 2025 was a complete success. At the LoRa Alliance booth, we saw lively interest from cities, utilities, and partners from all over the world. It was a great opportunity to showcase the strength of our network and our shared understanding of #bettertogether – with concrete customer references, use cases, products, and solutions from our team.”
